Especially smart glasses, merged reality platforms, and virtual assistance software. Are you curious how Ohana One surgeons navigate through this complex and revolutionary technology?  This is where Megan Demijohn, the Ohana One Physician Coordinator comes in.  Megan is a Help Lightning merged reality software and Vuzix smart glass technology expert! She coordinates with each of the newly onboarded surgeons to ensure they are fully trained and feel comfortable using these unique tools. Once an initial training has ended, Megan is always available to provide additional ongoing support. *Learn more about Megan below!* --- I first found out about Ohana One through a family friend, Susan Laffer, Ohana One’s Treasurer. When Susan first started explaining Ohana One’s mission and vision to me, I knew I had to be a part of Ohana One in some capacity. I soon met Marchelle Sellers, and she so kindly allowed me to be a volunteer. After a couple of months, I became Ohana One’s Physician Coordinator which allowed me to be in direct communication with the surgeons in our Surgical Sight Smart Glass Program. I am now primarily responsible for guiding our surgeons on how to use the VUZIX smart glasses and Help Lightning software and act as a resource if any problems arise.  I received my Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology thinking that I wanted to pursue a career in Physical Therapy. I had a background in sports therapy from playing sports all my life and was interested in the rehabilitation process, but after my graduation, I soon realized that it wasn’t something I was passionate about. After a year of working with Ohana One, I knew that I had found a home working in global health. The idea of potentially playing a small part in improving health and wellbeing and working towards increasing access to surgical training in a global context really inspired me to pursue a career in global health. The impact that Ohana One has had not only on the surgeons themselves, but also their patients, hospitals, and communities has been amazing to see. I know that Ohana One will continuously work to increase access to surgical education and training in an innovative, empowering, and collaborative environment. I feel beyond grateful to be a part of such an amazing organization and can’t wait to see the impact and success Ohana One will have in the future. After I finish my MSc in Global Health at Brighton and Sussex Medical School next fall, I hope to continue helping Ohana One close the global surgical gap.
