Innovation, Partnership, and Purpose: Ohana One at the G4 Alliance Permanent Council Meeting

As global health leaders gathered in Geneva ahead of the 79th World Health Assembly (WHA79), Ohana One was proud to participate in and sponsor the 19th Meeting of the G4 Alliance Permanent Council, a convening focused on advancing surgical, obstetric, trauma, and anesthesia (SOTA) care through technology, innovation, and sustainable financing. The meeting brought together clinicians, policymakers, advocates, educators, and healthcare leaders from around the world to explore solutions for strengthening healthcare systems and expanding access to quality surgical care.

Representing Ohana One were Jeanne Bray, Peter Ronoh, Cecilia Ronoh, and Katie Osborne, who joined colleagues from across the global surgery community to share ideas, build partnerships, and contribute to important discussions shaping the future of healthcare worldwide. As both a participant and sponsor, Ohana One was honored to support a gathering dedicated to collaboration, innovation, and sustainable solutions for some of the world's most pressing healthcare challenges.

The conference theme, Advancing SOTA Care through Technology, Innovation and Sustainable Financing, aligned closely with Ohana One's mission to expand access to surgical education and mentorship through technology-enabled partnerships. During the Technology and Innovation Panel, Ohana One joined fellow innovators in discussing how digital solutions are transforming healthcare delivery and workforce development in low-resource settings. Later, Jeanne Bray presented several of Ohana One's newest initiatives, highlighting how technology can strengthen local healthcare capacity while supporting sustainable, long-term training models.

Among the exciting developments shared during the meeting was the expansion of Ohana One's multidisciplinary approach through a new nursing initiative led by Cecilia Ronoh, with educational support from Professor Katie Osborne. By investing in nursing education alongside surgical training, Ohana One continues to strengthen the entire healthcare ecosystem that surrounds patient care. The organization also introduced its partnership with Vave Wireless Ultrasound, a portable point-of-care ultrasound platform that will begin deployment with select Surgical Sight Program teams. Integrating ultrasound technology into remote education and mentorship programs offers new opportunities to improve diagnostic capabilities, enhance clinical training, and support patient care in underserved regions.

For Ohana One, technology is most powerful when it strengthens local capacity. Whether through smart glasses, remote mentorship, telemedicine tools, or portable diagnostic equipment, innovation serves as a bridge connecting healthcare professionals to the knowledge, support, and resources they need to provide better care within their own communities.

One of the most meaningful moments of the meeting came as Peter Ronoh shared examples of how technology-enabled mentorship is creating real-world impact across multiple countries. These stories demonstrated how remote support and ongoing education are helping local providers strengthen clinical skills, expand services, and improve patient outcomes. Examples included collaborations with healthcare partners in Nigeria, Kenya, and Uganda, where local clinicians are gaining access to training, mentorship, and professional networks that might otherwise be unavailable. These experiences reinforce a central belief at Ohana One: sustainable change happens when local healthcare professionals are empowered to lead solutions within their own communities.

The week also marked an important milestone as Ohana One joined as a co-sponsor of the WHA79 side event, Strategic Leadership for Nurses and Midwives: A Policy Pathway to Stronger Health Systems. This collaboration reflects Ohana One's growing commitment to supporting the entire healthcare workforce and recognizing the critical role nurses and midwives play in strengthening health systems around the world. Strong surgical systems depend on strong multidisciplinary teams, and investing in nurses, midwives, and allied health professionals is essential to improving healthcare access, patient outcomes, and health equity globally.

Throughout the week, the Ohana One team participated in discussions focused on health equity, workforce development, innovation, and strengthening healthcare systems worldwide. The organization also joined fellow members of the global health community in the WHA79 "Walk the Talk: Health for All Challenge," reinforcing a shared commitment to collaboration, wellness, and action-oriented solutions that improve healthcare access for all.

As a sponsor of the G4 Alliance Permanent Council Meeting, Ohana One was proud to invest in a forum that fosters meaningful dialogue and partnership across the global surgery ecosystem. Sponsorship reflects the organization's belief that lasting progress requires organizations to come together, share knowledge, align priorities, and support collective action. The opportunity to engage with healthcare leaders, policymakers, advocates, and frontline providers from around the world reaffirmed that meaningful change happens when innovation is paired with collaboration and local leadership.

As conversations at WHA79 continue, Ohana One remains committed to building partnerships, advancing healthcare education, and leveraging innovation to strengthen surgical and healthcare access globally. Geneva served not only as a gathering place for policy and advocacy, but as a reminder that meaningful impact is built through shared purpose, sustained investment in people and communities, and a collective commitment to ensuring that geography is never a barrier to quality care.

Ohana One extends its sincere gratitude to the G4 Alliance leadership, planning committee, sponsors, members, and partners whose dedication made this important convening possible.
